The wrists were tied to one of the rungs, the feet tied to the bottom cylinder. Each turn stretched the victim further and further until the shoulders were dislocated.
A torch of seven wax tapers was then used to scorch the sides of the trunk and under the armpits. If the victim refused to confess after these tortures, he or she was proclaimed innocent, albeit with third-degree burns, a stretched body and dislocated shoulders.
