So the elevator pitch for this movie seems to have been “It’s Northern Exposure meets Werewolves!” Throw in some Agatha Christie, add a dash of paranoia; some small-town angst, et voilà.
As kooky as the premise sounds, it actually works somewhat well, shaping up into a decent mid-sized horror comedy. There’s some romantic interest between two characters early on that feels completely unearned and rushed, but when you got only 90 or so minutes, you gotta hit all those notes, I suppose.
The surprise at the end, for me, is that it is based upon a video game. Given the lousy track record of game to film adaptations, I would say that not having that information beforehand was a good thing.
