Watching this, I couldn’t help but think that surely there must be censors who love genre films and thoroughly enjoy their work. At some point though that enjoyment must turn into tedium and it devolves into yet another job.
So this ended up being one of those films with a deeper meaning I just didn’t quite grasp. It doesn’t help I was watching while multitasking; updating websites. There was some interesting gore effects, but otherwise, nothing much to recommend this. Maybe with full undivided attention it would get me a little more.
I couldn’t help but be reminded of Skinny Puppy, and their song Worlock. It was created in reaction to censorship of horror movies. The famous “A video exists for Worlock” line on the packaging for the single – the video consisted of a mashup of the goriest scenes from horror films. So the video was ‘banned’ in the sense that they would never be able to show it on MTV, but it also went well into the area of copyright infringement. Well before the 2000s, it was a badge of honor to say that you owned a copy of the video. One of my favorite songs, by the way.
